Some facts and figures

by bodyimage @ 2007-01-07 - 20:10:56

A study of students in the 18-22 age group has reported that 74% of them wanted to weigh less, with only 25% of women in the 'healthy weight' category being happy with their weight. The study also revealed that 48% of the women had dieted to try and lose weight in the previous year.

Beauty is stupid

by bodyimage @ 2006-10-22 - 05:51:53

Magazines are full of the same "new way to please your man" and it all seems stupid to me. The media not only brainwashes the girls into all of these thoughts of what it is like to be a perfect looking woman, but it brainwashes the men as well. I think if we stopped all magazines, posters, models, etc. for one year and 10 men were to pick out in their mind the best looking girl out of 50 girls, none of the men would pick the same girl. Each man has his own style and some of it is influenced by the media. Media makes girls addicted to staying current with styles, they can never get enough and want to be on top of all the new styles before anyone else, which is why it changes so much and is such a booming industry. I think it sucks, if you want to know how to please a guy, ask him, don't take hints from an author that you know nothing about. Girls have become way to competitive, I've seen them backstab their own friends many times over guys, just because they want the attention. I don't really know what else to say, the media negatively influences too many people.

Hoodia Gordonii appetite suppressant

by bodyimage @ 2006-07-12 - 05:43:47

The Kalahari Bushmen for tens of thousands of years considered the Hoodia plant not only as an appetite suppressant but also as food, water, and a source of energy. This sparked the curiosity of the South African Government’s Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), especially after a Dutch ethno-biologist produced a research paper about its uses in 1937. So how does Hoodia work in curbing appetite? To explain in layman’s terms, when Hoodia is taken its active ingredient imitates the effects of glucose sugar on the brain’s nerve cells. They tell the brain that the body is full and doesn't need any more food, causing the brain to diminish appetite.

Lip enlargement or enhancement

by bodyimage @ 2005-12-24 - 21:27:11

Until recently the only way to get lip enlargement or enhancement was by taking the drastic and expensive step of some surgical procedure or by going through a tiresome series of collagen injections. But now a new discovery offers an easy and convenient way of achieving the same look.

Body Image Tips

by bodyimage @ 2005-12-15 - 11:53:31

· Reclaim your own inner strength. Focus on the unique qualities and personality traits that make you a special and successful person.
· Nurture your inner self. Enjoy things you find relaxing (e.g. music, bubble baths, fragrances, candles, massages, reading, writing, napping), be close to nature (e.g. garden, sunsets, beach, stars), and/or seek spiritual connection (e.g. prayer, meditation, inspirational reading, reflection). Feeling good on the inside is key to feeling good on the outside.
· Examine the degree to which your self-esteem depends upon your appearance. Although it may seem natural to wish you looked like a fashion model or a body builder, basing your happiness on this desire may lead to failure. Unrealistic goals can prevent you from exploring ways to enhance your life.
· Broaden your perspective. Talk to people you trust, read books about body image, or write in a journal. These activities may help you to recognize emotionally destructive thoughts and put body image into perspective.
· Recognize that “fat-ism” is a form of discrimination similar to sexism, racism, and classism. Assumptions that body shape determines attractiveness, personality, and success are incorrect and unjust. Combat discrimination when possible. Question assumptions and generalizations which promote the belief that one “type” of person is better than another.

The ideal body

by bodyimage @ 2005-12-02 - 12:16:30

It's common for people to think that they would be so much happier if only they could lose weight. Our society equates thinness with happiness, so logically people turn to diets as the solution to all their life problems. Unfortunately weight is not the true problem and dieting is not the answer. Happiness comes from within.

Media images

by bodyimage @ 2005-09-26 - 22:07:53

Advertising emphasises the importance of physical attractiveness and this places pressure on women to focus on their appearance. In recent survey 27% of girls felt that the media pressures them to have a perfect body and a 1996 survey found that ads made women fear being unattractive or old. Advertising may adversely impact women's body image, which can lead to unhealthy behaviour as women strive for the ultra-thin body idealised in the media. Advertising images have also been recently accused of setting unrealistic ideals for males too and boys are beginning to compromise their health to try and achieve the well-built media standard.

Starch blocker

by bodyimage @ 2005-09-19 - 22:06:43

The magazines are full of stories about the Phase 2 white bean starch blocker tablets. If you want to know more about them this is the best place to go.

Phase 2 does this

by bodyimage @ 2005-07-23 - 23:15:16

Phase 2 white kidney bean extract has a neutraliser effect on the enzyme alpha amylase which means means that it prevents it from carrying out its function of breaking down starch from carb foods and converting it as usual into sugar calories. By blocking the action of the alpha amylase enzyme, the presence of the Phase 2 starch blocker in the digestive system allows carb foods to be processed in the body with a sharp reduction in its calories.

Phytoestrogens

by bodyimage @ 2005-06-10 - 23:38:30

Phytoestrogens act as estrogen agonists by occupying estrogen receptor sites when natural estrogens are unavailable. For example, the body's natural estrogens inevitably decline with the onset of menopause and phytoestrogens may help to offset this decline if they can fill receptor sites instead. Once docked on the sites they exert estrogen-like activity and can initiate the required effect as natural estrogen would have done.
